About 3 years ago, Sandra's 14 year old son, Alex complained that he was bored. Sandra suggested he start a business. She donated fabric and time while Alex learned how to run a business. Inspired by their two cats, Alex decided to make and sell catnip toys. Alex quickly learned how to cut fabric, use a sewing machine, order catnip, price and sell his products. After some trial and error Alex developed his current product line which come in 5 different sizes and range in price from $2.25 to $9.75 (depending on amount of catnip filling).

Alex's cat nip toys are filled with catnip pellets because they are not only fairly inexpensive but the aroma lasts at least a year. These pellets are made from dried catnip that has been machine compacted and then machine formed into pellets.

Twenty five percent of all sales of Alex's catnip toys go to Sweetpea - Friends of Rutland, MA Animal Shelter, as well as other shelters. Alex has even recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Sweetpea Animal Shelter.

Alex recently added another product to his business: Cat Mats. These washable fleece mats can also be used for small dogs. People have even been using them at sporting events for comfortable seating.

Sandra always makes sure to have plenty of catnip toys and mats when she sells at craft shows.
